The long term goal of the 50th Celebration of Laker High School is to establish a Laker Alumni Association. The LAA will:
**Establish scholarships for Laker graduates - Seniors, and for alumni in Master's and Graduate programs. The scholarships would be connected with the Huron County Foundation. **Organize a Speaker/Expert Bureau - have alumni who can help current students and teachers in their area of expertise. **Establish a program to provide career and job shadowing experiences. **Hall of Fame - Honor LHS graduates who have made significant contributions to society and whose accomplishments and careers credit to the institution. Recognize at Homecoming, profile in local newspapers; receive plaque and picture/profile in Student Center. Alumni, Supporters, and Past Personnel please visit the Surveys, Contact Us page and fill out a survey. The Huron Daily Tribune is looking for Laker Graduates to interview for feature stories in their paper throughout the celebration. If you would like to nominate someone who you feel has an interesting story please Email us. 50years@lakerschools.org |

Silent Auction
Several oil paintings and a mosaic decorated coronet, have been donated for a silent auction from 1979 EPBP Alumni artist Pam “ella” Buchholz. “Ella”, now residing in Erie, Colorado, loves the mosaic concept of “Wabi-Sabi”, in which you acquire a musical instrument, which no longer is played, and cover it with glass and porcelain. Bidders can view the art objects now on display at Thumb National Bank in Pigeon, and place their silent bids on each item. Proceeds will go towards the Laker 50th Celebration. For further information call (989)670-2468.

Fequently Asked Questions:
Are these events only for Laker Alumni? No! Everyone is welcome to attend any and all events. Why isn't there a banquet like there was at the 25th Celebration? The number of people that are involved in this event (5,000+) would be too large for any banquet facility in our area. Why is the celebration taking place now? The first class to graduate with Elkton, Pigeon, Bay Port diplomas was the class of 1961. The 50th class will be 2010. The celebration will take place during the year leading up to graduation 2010. Do the math: 1961 1971 1981 1991 2001 1962 1972 1982 1992 2002 1963 1973 1983 1993 2003 1964 1974 1984 1994 2004 1965 1975 1985 1995 2005 1966 1976 1986 1996 2006 1967 1977 1987 1997 2007 1968 1978 1988 1998 2008 1969 1979 1989 1999 2009 1970 1980 1990 2000 2010 Why didn't I receive an invitation in the mail? Sending 5,000+ invitations was just impossible. Because many people don't have listed phone numbers, addresses were difficult to find. Many classes have not kept track of their classmates' contact information. These factors necessitated the reliance on advertising, this website, and just plain passing the word. Why wasn't the big event scheduled during the summer instead of the fall at homecoming? The committee felt it was important not to interfer with other community festivals that take place during the summer. Homecoming has always been a traditional time to come back and celebrate. Why is the budget so high ($75,000)? We are trying to make this a first class event and with the number of dedicated volunteers involved, we are well on our way. The committee all talked about the tough economic times we are facing, but we only get one chance at this and the time is now. We obviously estimated high to build in a cushion for the unexpected. Now, if everything goes as plan we are going to come in way under budget as long as people show up to take part in these events. If we are fortunate enough to pay for this event and have a surplus of money, (which is the plan) this will all go into an alumni fund to be established for scholarships for Laker High School graduates. |
